Merry Christmas From Hoppin Bobbin

Update on Quilts for Superstorm Sandy

"Super Sandy (Wirth) and the Elves (Marianne and Patti) are back from New York and have successfully dropped off the quilts to the Sisters for distribution to those in need. The Sisters were so very grateful for the quilt donations. They were so amazed at the colors and work that went into them. They were excited to start distributing them on Saturday, December 15th. We had a wonderful time and met 3 truly inspirational women, Sisters Phyllis, Liz, and Virginia were just wonderful. Liz took us to her local Volunteer Fire Company shelter where they still provide 3 hot meals daily for those in the Brooklyn/Sheepshead Bay area. They also provide clothing, sleeping bags, toiletries, food, water, and whatever else is donated to them to share.

They are in need of Hoodies, coats, hats, gloves, scarves, and anything else to help keep these families warm. These homes were only blocks away from the water and all need to be remodeled. The floors, walls, etc need to be removed and replaced. FEMA trailers, and mobile hospital buses were on the streets in the area to help these people who are doing with little or nothing. But 6 weeks after the storm they are still waiting for answers from FEMA.

I am excited to start more quilts for the January delivery. They are so needed and appreciated. Hope you will all continue to share your talents and make the next delivery as wonderful as this one was."  - Patti Strine
I have received a phone call from one of the mothers whose daughter received a donated quilt.  By the time I was done talking to her, I was in tears. She went on and on about how her daughter, Radiance, loved her quilt and that it would be cherished for the rest of her life.  An email sent by another family stated how grateful they were and how much it was appreciated for the help for the children at their school.  You ladies have touched SO MANY lives!!!!  Your hard work, donations of time and supplies are so appreciated.  Thank you for all that you have done!  I can't say it enough............. I have the BEST clients here at Hoppin Bobbin!  You are all fantastic!

We are still taking donations for this wonderful cause!  Hoppin Bobbin Quilters have been quilting away getting tops finished to donate to families in the Brentwood, NY area.  If you have monetary donations, a quilt top, finished quilt or fabrics to donate to this cause, or any of the items that were listed above in Patti's note,  please bring those items in to Hoppin Bobbin during regular business hours.  We are still looking for donations of time, to help get these quilted and binded. There will be more quilts and items taken to NY in January.  If you are able to help in any way,  please contact us at 410 272 2226 and we will help you get in touch with the coordinator of this project.

Completed quilts will be taken to New York and distributed by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Brentwood, NY, who have been working in the affected areas.

December-   All Christmas Fabrics (minimum 1 yd cut) and Christmas Kits are on sale at 20% off.

Merry Christmas!
Thanks to all of you that have kept Mary Lou on your prayer list. Mom is slowly but surely recovering from the pneumonia.  While you won't see her at the shop a whole lot any more, she is frantically working on projects for you at home.  She will spend most of her time teaching when she is here now and I think you'll be seeing her on Fridays for the sew in days as well.  She has some fabulous new ideas for classes and events and we are looking forward to seeing them come into place.

I personally still don't have all of my personal Christmas projects finished but hope to do so in the next couple days.  Almost 200 yards of batting and 55 projects in one and a half months and all of the Christmas quilts and gifts are done for customers.  I have had to give Bessie, and myself,  a few days to recooperate and she will be back up and running again to get the 30+ "non-Christmas" quilts finished asap.  So, I hope you are getting your Christmas projects done and that you are staying sane doing your Christmas shopping, wrapping, cooking and prepping for the big day.  Please be sure to stop and ENJOY it!

I want to say thank you to so many people who have shown me such kindness and generosity over the last several weeks.  I have received cards, cookies, chocolate covered pretzels, candles, breads and a fabulous sewing machine ornament (that everyone wants to buy now) over the last several weeks.  I want all of you to know that your gifts have been so unexpected and greatly appreciated. Your have overwhelmed my heart and I want you to know that each and everyone of you, touch my life on a daily basis.  I can honestly say that I have the most thoughtful, and  greatest clients on earth.  You guys are fabulous.  I hope that everyone of you has a very blessed and Merry Christmas and that you get to spend it with those you love.   Thank you so much for making mine blessed and for your thoughtfulness.

Merry, Merry Christmas to you and Happy New Year!
Kelly and Tootsie
